No. 19 Warrior Volleyball Outlasts Carroll in Five-Set Victory

SPOKANE, Wash. – Using a dominant fifth set on Saturday, the No. 19-ranked Corban University volleyball team won its second-straight five-set match, this time topping Carroll College (Mont.) while going the distance (25-17, 19-25, 25-18, 18-25, 15-6).

"This weekend was a time of growth for the team," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We faced opponents that challenged us, pushing us to get better. Proud of how we held strong and finished today."

The decisive fifth set was actually tied at 3-3, but then Corban went on a 9-0 run that ultimately sealed the deal, riding that wave of energy into the victory. Overall as a team, Corban totaled a .193 hitting percentage while holding Carroll to just a .130 hitting mark, including a -.037 mark in the final stanza.

The Warriors rode the hot hand of Adriana Aguayo on Saturday, as while swinging for a .386 attack percentage, she racked up a team-best 22 kills. Demi Winters was also efficient at the net, totaling 10 kills on a .318 attack percentage to go along with a team-leading three block assists. In addition, Tori Edwards provided a number of important kills for the Navy and Gold, tallying eight on the day on a .333 hitting percentage.

Once again, it was Cierra Leopoldino and Jadyn Mullen running the Warrior attack, dishing out assists left and right. Both players totaled 25 assists, while Mullen racked up 14 digs as well. Also playing well on the defensive side of the ball was Madison Pfaff with 19 digs, while Kealani Ontai and Lauren Condon combined for 26 digs between the two.

Corban (2-1) is back in action this coming week when it travels to Iowa for six non-conference contests. Action starts on Wednesday at Morningside College at 4 p.m. PT.
