SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The No. 19-ranked Corban University volleyball team faltered in four sets (25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20) in its first match in Iowa on Wednesday evening, falling to Morningside College (Iowa). The match was the first of six on this road trip for the Navy and Gold.
"Morningside had a great offensive punch," said Corban head coach Kim McLain. "We struggled with our consistency and must learn how to minimize our unforced errors. Exciting to see how the team continues to grow with each match!"
Corban struggled to maintain consistency on the night, hitting for just a .146 mark offensively while totaling 25 errors. Morningside hit at just a .163 clip, but a few less errors and 10 service aces proved to be the difference. Corban ended up with just three service aces and nine service errors.
Demi Winters led the way with 12 kills on a .310 hitting mark, while Tori Edwards swung at a .304 clip with 10 kills. In addition, on the offensive end, Cassie Cunningham totaled seven kills and Avari Ridgway added eight.
Defensively, Madison Pfaff racked up 18 digs while Lauren Condon led the team with 21 overall. Jadyn Mullen tallied 25 assists in the defeat with Cierra Leopoldino tallying 19.
Corban is back in action on Thursday when it takes on No. 7-ranked Northwestern (Iowa). First serve is slated for 7 p.m. CT.
