Warrior Men’s Basketball Stumbles Late to No. 14 Oregon Tech, 87-81

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Free-throw shooting and turnovers cost the Corban University men's basketball team late in Friday night's bout with No. 14-ranked Oregon Tech, as the Warriors ultimately fell to the Owls on the road, 87-81.

"Our boys played a tough physical game in a tough environment," said Corban head coach Mitch Freeman. "A few missed free-throws and turnovers down the stretch hurt us. We need to put this behind us quickly as we have a tough opponent tomorrow night vs. Southern Oregon."

Corban went 21-for-34 from the charity stripe on the night, including four missed free throws in a row in the final minute. On the other end of the court, Oregon Tech made its free throws down the stretch and went 31-for-37 overall from the line in the win. In addition, Corban had a few costly turnovers late on, negating possessions, and in all, Corban almost doubled the amount of turnovers to Oregon Tech.

It was a good first half for Corban, scoring 39 points while playing well defensively to hold the Owls (16-4, 7-1 CCC) to just 36 points, but in the second stanza, Oregon Tech caught fire at varying points, and ultimately with the game tied down the stretch, it was the home squad that came up with the big plays late to secure the win.

AJ Hodges led the way for the Navy and Gold with 22 points, while Denis Kirichenko totaled 13 points and Beau Tilleman recorded 12.

As a team, Corban shot 43.9% overall and 37.0% from deep.

Oregon Tech's Tyler Hieb led the way with 17 points in the win for the Owls, while Seth Erickson tallied 15 points.

Corban (12-6, 3-5 CCC) returns to the court tomorrow night when it takes on Southern Oregon University. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Ashland.
