ASHLAND, Ore. – For the first time since the 2013-14 campaign, the Corban University women's basketball team has defeated Southern Oregon University, earning the win on Saturday night on the road against the No. 19-ranked Raiders, 71-62. The last triumph over the Raiders came on January 4, 2014, and it was also on the road against SOU.
"There were so many great individual efforts tonight that you have to just call it a great real win," said Corban head coach Bill Pilgeram. "We handled their pressure very well, spaced the floor, and were able to get good shots offensively. I know the team was tired, but we gutted out another complete-game effort from everybody. Holding that team to 62 points is an outstanding defensive effort."
Sweeping this Oregon Tech/Southern Oregon road trip was a monumental feat, as it marked the first time Corban won both games on this road swing since the Warriors did it back during the 2010-11 season.
The Warriors have now won seven-consecutive games overall and six-straight contests in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play. Corban moves into second place in the CCC standings with the win.
Jordan Woodvine followed up her 41-point performance on Friday with a 26-point showing on Saturday, making big shot after big shot late to lift the Navy and Gold to the nine-point road triumph. She nailed six long-range efforts, including two in the final few minutes of regulation to seal the deal. On top of her 26 points, she also hauled in a team-leading 13 boards and shot 10-for-21 from the field overall.
Emily Yost also had a standout game for Corban, pouring in 19 points on a very efficient 9-for-12 from the floor while grabbing 11 rebounds. Treasure Farmer dished out 10 assists in the victory, while Lindsay Asplund and Jordan Rasberry scored 17 points between the two.
In the win, it wasn't the best start, as the Warriors fell behind by six points after quarter one, but a big second-quarter showing sent Corban into the break up by three. A 10-0 run to start the third stanza proved pivotal, as the Warriors never relinquished the advantage and finished out the contest in control, winning by the nine-point margin.
Corban shot 50.9% overall and 47.4% from downtown, while defensively, the Warriors locked down and held SOU to just a 30.3% shooting mark overall and a 32.3% clip from beyond the arc.
Corban (13-6, 7-2 CCC) returns to the court next weekend when it travels east to take on Eastern Oregon University and College of Idaho on Friday and Saturday. Tipoffs are slated for 5:30 p.m. PST on Friday and 4:30 p.m. PST on Saturday.
