GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Enduring frigid temperatures, the offense of the No. 24-ranked Corban University men's soccer team was as hot as ever on Friday afternoon, blasting six goals en route to a 6-3 victory over the University of Providence. Half of the squad's scoring came courtesy of Charles Cleyton, who earned his first career hat trick in the win.
The Warrior offense got started quickly, taking an early lead via a Camilo Avendano goal (2) in the 12th minute. Cleyton then doubled the advantage just six minutes later, finishing off a pass by Yohanes Susanto to push the lead to two.
The Argos responded valiantly, however, erasing the deficit quickly after goals from George Holloway (28') and Alain Murhula (38').
Gudmundur Gudmundsson then gave Providence the lead right before the midway point, finding the back of the net with just eight seconds left to play in the first half.
"We didn't play up to our standard in the first half," said head coach Tim Kagey. "Fortunately, we responded well in the second and finished the game strong."
Just under nine minutes into the second half (54'), the Warriors equalized on Cleyton's second goal of the game, with Matheus Giron providing the assist.
The goal would be the first of four in the second half for Corban, with Allando Brown (3) putting the Warriors ahead in the 59th minute, Cleyton (5) completing his hat trick in the 72nd minute, and Hakeem Smith (5) delivering the dagger in the 75th minute.
In goal, Nic Farr collected six saves in his seventh win of the season.
With the defeat, Providence moves to 6-3-1 overall and 4-3 in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play.
The Warriors (9-0-1, 7-0 CCC) remain undefeated on the 2019 season, finishing off their six-game road stand with a battle against Carroll College tomorrow afternoon. Kick-off for the match is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. MST in Helena, Mont.
