KIRKLAND, Wash. – Entering today's contest having conceded just two goals all season, the (RV) Corban University men's soccer team was forced to play from behind for the first time in 2019 during its Friday afternoon matchup with Northwest University. Despite trailing by two at the midway point, the Warriors netted a trio of goals in the second half to capture a thrilling 3-2 victory.
Matheus Giron led the charge in the latter half, netting the game-winner in the 88th minute to push the Warriors ahead—part of a brace for the junior from São Paulo, Brazil.
"We had a slow start today and I thought Northwest did a good job of capitalizing on our mistakes," said head coach Tim Kagey. "This was the first time all year we were behind, and the team responded well to collect three points."
It was Jordan Travis who did the early damage for the hometown Eagles, with the 2018 All-Conference Honorable-Mention forward finding the back of the net in the 2nd and 20th minutes. His two goals matched the entire season total conceded by the Navy and Gold prior to today.
The score would remain 2-0 until the half, but the Warrior offense mounted an impressive response after the break. Early into the frame, Allando Brown snuck a header past Eagle goalkeeper Alexander Thiehofe, finishing off a header sent into the box from Christian Silva.
Later in the half, Camilo Avendano narrowly missed the equalizer—banging one off the crossbar. Fortunately for the Warriors, Giron found himself in the perfect position after the shot, poking in the deflection to even the score.
Both teams fought hard in pursuit of a go-ahead goal, but it wasn't until the 88th minute that Giron capped off the Warrior comeback with a missile into the left-side netting from 20 yards out.

With the loss, Northwest (5-5) falls to 2-3 in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play, while the Warriors remain undefeated at 7-0-1 (5-0 CCC). Corban is one of just six teams in the NAIA who have yet to be defeated in 2019.
Corban's next challenge will come tomorrow, tackling Evergreen State at 1 p.m. in Olympia, Wash.
