EUGENE, Ore. – The Morse Event Center has traditionally proven itself a hostile environment for the Corban University volleyball team, with the Navy and Gold entering Friday night's matchup with Northwest Christian University with a 1-7 record in Eugene dating back to 2011.
The No. 7-ranked Warriors saw another fierce competition with their Interstate-5 rival tonight, edging the Beacons in a five-set thriller (23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 15-7) to move to 9-0 in conference play.
"Coming in, we knew it would be a battle," said head coach Kim McLain after the triumph. "It was definitely a team effort, and I am proud of how the girls finished strong with a win."
After Northwest Christian claimed the first set, Corban took sets two and three. The Beacons evened the contest with a 25-22 victory in the fourth game, but the resilient Warriors moved to 3-1 on the year in five-set matches with a 15-7 triumph in the deciding game.
Three members of the Corban roster finished with double-digit kills in the triumph, while four Warriors registered an attack percentage of at least .275 (min. five kills).
