KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Corban University women's soccer team was unable to cool off the red-hot (RV) Northwest University Eagles on Friday afternoon, falling for the first time in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play by a final tally of 2-0.
The loss marks the end of a seven-game unbeaten streak for the Navy and Gold.
"We are in a learning process of what it takes to be a good team," said head coach Derek Faulkner. "We have set goals and communicated ideas of what that looks like, and tonight we just didn't hit the mark. We acknowledged that as a group, and we know we are capable of more. We had some real positive moments and flashes of good ideas, but at the end of the day, it just wasn't enough."
A minute and a half into the contest, Rylee Rassier put the Eagles in front. The senior forward would strike again in the 59th minute, accounting for all of Northwest's scoring on the afternoon.
The Warrior offense struggled to gain traction against the Eagles' defense, mustering a season-low seven shots. It is the first time in 2019 that Corban has been held to a single-digit shot count.
Of the seven strikes, Jossie Lauderback and Hannah Hersh each managed to put one on frame. Northwest's Kat Sanchez was excellent in goal, however, collecting a pair of saves in her fourth shutout of the season.
Northwest (8-2, 4-0 CCC) remains undefeated in conference play, having now won eight-consecutive games.
It's the first loss since August for the Navy and Gold (6-3-1, 3-1-1 CCC), who will have an opportunity to bounce back tomorrow afternoon against The Evergreen State College. Kickoff in Olympia, Wash. is slated for 3 p.m.
"Good teams respond to adversity, and we have an opportunity to do that tomorrow," added Faulkner. "I am excited to see us grow through this challenge together."
