Shore’s Golden Goal in 2OT Lifts Corban Women’s Soccer to 2-1 Win over Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Corban University women's soccer team wasted no time getting back into the win column, earning a nail-biting double overtime victory over The Evergreen State College on Saturday afternoon, 2-1. The game-winning golden goal came off the foot of Hannah Shore, who rifled a shot past Geoduck keeper Alexis Backus to seal the gritty triumph.

"Road games are difficult, but overall, today was a really good day for us," said head coach Derek Faulkner. "There were a lot of really good performances from players off the bench and that was really important for us today. We needed it! Proud of the way we bounced back and responded to the game yesterday."

The Warriors dominated the shot count on the afternoon, firing off 25 (11 on goal) to Evergreen's nine (four on goal).

Despite the limited opportunities, the Geoducks drew first blood, jumping ahead 1-0 in the 69th minute courtesy of a goal from Madison Early. Six minutes later, Corban's Chanel Garcia erased the deficit, drawing the game even at one with her fourth goal of the season.

"We got off to a bit of a frustrating start, as we created some good chances but just couldn't find the net," Faulkner added. "Then, down one early in the second half, we kept pushing the tempo to get a goal. We created a really good moment and got a great goal out of it."

The score would remain knotted through the remainder of regulation and first overtime period, before Shore sent everyone home with less than a minute to play in the second overtime stanza.

Malie Kuia was again tremendous between the pipes for the Warriors, earning the win and collecting a trio of saves. With the victory, Corban (7-3-1, 4-1-1 CCC) moves into a tie for fourth place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings.

Having played each of their last four matches away from the comforts of home, the Warriors will compete in two more road duels before returning to the CFC Soccer Complex on October 18-19.

On Friday (October 11) of next week, the Navy and Gold will face off with the University of Providence at 3:30 p.m. MST. Then on the following day, the Warriors will go toe-to-toe with Carroll College, with kickoff for the contest also slated for 3:30 p.m. MST.
