Top-Seeded Corban Men’s Soccer Dominates C of I, 6-1, Advances to CCC Semis

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The No. 1-seeded Corban University men's soccer team made a statement in its Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Quarterfinal matchup with the No. 8-seeded College of Idaho on Tuesday, dominating the Yotes in a 6-1 triumph.

"It was great to get off to a good start today," said head coach Tim Kagey. "We continued to show our depth today, and we are looking forward to our match tomorrow!"

Just nine minutes into the contest, CCC Co-Defender of the Year Allando Brown vaulted above a pack of players to head a beautiful corner kick from Camilo Avendano into the back of the net. The goal was the sixth of the year for the defender, while also extending Avendano's conference-leading assist tally to 14.

After an own-goal from the Yotes in the 21st minute, College of Idaho scraped one back in the 53rd, with Bekir Cinac blasting his sixth goal of the season via a free kick from 30 yards out.

The goal gave the Yotes a brief glimpse of hope against the 2019 CCC Regular-Season Champions, but the Navy and Gold responded with a relentless stretch of four goals in the span of just 10 minutes to place the game well out of reach.

Yuki Onishi started the run, slotting in his eighth goal of the season in the 60th minute. Newly-minted CCC Newcomer of the Year Matheus Giron (14) then got in on the action, finishing off a pass from Charles Cleyton less than a minute and a half after Onishi's goal.

In the 68th minute, Nate Sherwood provided some insurance for the Warriors, pushing the Corban lead to 5-1. Onishi was credited with an assist on the goal.

Less than two minutes later, Cleyton rounded out the Warrior scoring, netting the team's sixth goal of the game—and his seventh of the season—in the 69th minute.

In goal, Justin Keegan earned the first postseason win of his young career, tallying four saves in the triumph.

In a surprising upset, No. 7-seeded Evergreen toppled second-seeded Rocky Mountain this afternoon, meaning the Warriors will meet up with the Geoducks at 4 p.m. tomorrow in a semifinal battle down in Springfield, Ore.
