No. 14 Warrior Volleyball Earns Comeback Win over Northwest in CCC Quarterfinals

SALEM, Ore. – The No. 14 Corban University volleyball team faced a shot at redemption on Tuesday evening in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center, hosting Northwest University in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Quarterfinals, presented by U.S. Bank. It was the same venue where the Warriors hosted the Eagles on October 19, when Northwest handed the Navy and Gold its only home defeat of the 2019 season.

On this night, however, the Warriors earned redemption with a resilient four-set victory over the upset-minded Eagles (9-25, 25-16, 26-24, 25-21).

"Our team did a great job battling back after the first set loss," said head coach Kim McLain. "Northwest kept serving well and we knew we had to find our passing rhythm, which created better offensive options for us. I'm proud of this team, how they never give up and play for each other!"

In the first set of the match, the Warriors looked overmatched by the visiting Eagles, losing by a score of 25-9. Fortunately, Corban would not allow the disappointing start to affect how the rest of the match would play out.

The next set tipped in the Navy and Gold's favor, with the scoreboard showing 25-16 at the end of the second game.

The third set is where the Warriors cemented their foothold on the match. After another slow start to the stanza, the Warriors trailed 18-11 and looked destined to fall behind two-sets-to-one. However, Corban would close the set on an impressive 15-6 run to triumph 26-24.

The set-three win shifted the tide of the match for good. The final set finished 25-21, and the Navy and Gold had control of it from the get-go.

Jacquelyn Clark was the Warriors' catalyst, serving as the go-to in big moments. The standout middle blocker picked up nine kills on a strong .444 attacking clip.

Also making a steady contribution was Sarah Randall, who registered eight putaways on a .412 attack percentage. Cassie Cunningham led the team in kills with 11 in the triumph.

Jadyn Mullen and Lauren Condon tied for the team lead in digs with 14. Kealani Ontai (12) and Cunningham (11) also finished the night in double-digits

Mullen (24 assists) and Ciarra Judson (17 assists) had strong days as the distributors, working in tandem to compile 41 assists.

With the victory, the Warriors advance to the CCC Tournament final site down in Ashland, Ore. Corban will be looking to knock off the No. 2 seeded Eastern Oregon Mountaineers in Ashland, Ore., taking on the Mounties at 3:30 p.m. on Friday in the conference semifinals.
