Corban Women’s Soccer Stuns Top-Seeded Oregon Tech, 1-0

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – On Tuesday evening, the No. 8-seeded Corban University women's soccer team stunned the top-seeded Oregon Tech Owls in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Quarterfinals, presented by U.S. Bank. The Warriors dealt the Owls their first loss since August 30, earning a spot in the CCC Semifinals tomorrow night.

"I'm really proud of our girls tonight," said head coach Derek Faulkner. "We had a plan in place that we were excited about, and we executed it at a really high level. There's a lot of love in this group and we are excited to fight for another day together. We are looking forward to another opportunity tomorrow."

As was the story with the first time the two teams matched up, it was a defensive battle on Tuesday. Neither squad was able to find the back of the net in the first half, with Corban's Elizabeth Brock collecting a pair of saves and Oregon Tech's Jenna Stiehr going unchallenged in a scoreless first 45 minutes.

Both teams sought an advantage out of the break, with shots coming few and far between for the two squads. Corban mustered only two shots on goal in the evening, but one of those came off the foot of Megan Harvey in the 72nd minute, and that was all the Warriors would need.

The goal came just moments after Oregon Tech's Amanda Seward fired off a shot from close range. Seward's blast seemed destined to find the back of the net, but an outstretched Brock was able to preserve the tie with a brilliant save.

The Warriors launched a counterattack off the deflection, eventually resulting in Harvey's magnificent strike from 35 yards out. Using her left foot, Harvey curled one into the right corner, registering the first goal of her career in the biggest moment of the season for the Navy and Gold.

From there, Corban's defense held strong, fending off the Owls' search for an equalizer to seal the upset. Brock was exceptional between the pipes, tallying four saves in her second shutout of 2019.

The last time Oregon Tech lost in 2019 was on August 30 at the hands of NCAA Division I foe University of Idaho. It's been over a year (November 7, 2018) since the Owls lost to a CCC opponent.

With the triumph, the Warriors advance to a CCC Semifinal matchup tomorrow against Eastern Oregon University. The contest will kick off at 7 p.m. at the Willamalane Complex.
