HAVRE, Mont. – The No. 14 Corban University women's basketball team could not find their shot on Friday afternoon in Havre, Mont. The Warriors struggled to a 69-43 loss at the hands of the Montana State University-Northern Skylights.
"We came out and played with much better energy and showed some stretches of very good basketball," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "Turnovers and poor shooting ended up causing too big of a hole to climb out of."
The Warriors 28.7% cumulative field goal percentage marks their season low as a unit. In addition, the Navy and Gold shot a meager 20% (3-of-15) from three-point land. Only compounding things was the fact that Corban had 24 giveaways in the contest as well. The Skylights capitalized off of those turnovers for 25 points off turnovers.
The Skylights had a respectable shooting night, sinking 44.8% of their shots in the bout. They also shot 4-of-16 (25%) from three-point range in the contest. The Warriors were unable to wreak the havoc that the Skylights were able to on defense. There were just 11 turnovers in the matchup by MSU-Northern, and Corban scored just four points off of those giveaways.
Jordan Woodvine was the sole Warrior in double-figures with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while Shaelie Burgess was the next closest with eight points (3-of-9). Kendra Murphy picked up six points in the defeat while also leading the Navy and Gold in rebounds with seven.
The Skylights ran their offense through Peyton Kehr, who scored 14 points (5-of-12) and added three assists and two rebounds for the top performance of the night for MSU-Northern.
The Warriors (2-2) will set foot on the court once again and look to get back on track tomorrow against University of Providence (Mont.). The game will be held at the same site of today's game in Havre, Mont., the home of the Skylights.
