BOX SCORE HAVRE, Mont. – The No. 14-ranked Corban University women's basketball team competed against the Argonauts of the University of Providence (Mont.) on Saturday, falling to the Argos by a final tally of 86-63.
A box score for the contest is not available.
"We played a very good team and matched them toe-to-toe for much of the game!" said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "The difference came down to them shooting lights out from outside."
Providence came out of the gates strong, outscoring the Warriors 20-11 in the first quarter. Though Corban was able to narrowly trim the deficit in the second stanza, the Argos retained a 36-29 advantage at the midway point. Critical to Providence's success was its performance from beyond the arc, going 9-of-15 (60%) from three in the first half.
In the end, the hot-shooting Argo offense proved too much to overcome. Providence notched 50 points as a team in the second half, sealing the contest with a 29-point fourth quarter.
Bailey Cartwright paved the way for the Argos in the victory, ending the game with 20 points and seven boards.
As a team, Providence shot 47.5% from the field, and 51.6% from downtown.
For the Warriors, it was once again Jordan Woodvine who led the charge. The senior from Salem tallied a game-high 22 points, while adding a trio of rebounds.
Shaelie Burgess also finished in double-figures, ending the afternoon with 12 points and a pair of boards.
Despite the final result, the Warriors remain optimistic as they compete against top-level competition early in the 2019-20 season.
"We got better today as a team," added Pilgeram. "We are looking forward to one more game in Billings on Monday!"
Corban (2-3) will close its six-game road swing with an exhibition contest against NCAA Division II Montana State-Billings on Monday, with the game scheduled to begin at noon.
