(RV) Corban Men’s Basketball Unable to Upend No. 23 Lewis-Clark State in 86-73 Defeat

CALDWELL, Idaho – The (RV) Corban University men's basketball team took on one of the top squads at the NAIA Division I level on Friday, falling by a final score of 86-73 against No. 23-ranked Lewis-Clark State College.

The game, played at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center on the campus of College of Idaho, was the first of two contests for the Navy and Gold in this weekend's Domino's Classic.

"LC State is a tough and physical basketball team with size and experience," said head coach Mitch Freeman, "And not having everyone put a lot of pressure on both sides of the ball for tonight. Losing never feels good, but this loss showed us that we have some grit and toughness."

Lewis-Clark—which made it to the semifinals of last year's NAIA Division I National Tournament—has yet to lose in 2019-20, advancing to 7-0 on the season with today's triumph.

Damek Mitchell led the squad with 18 points and seven assists, going 5-of-9 from the field. Josiah Westbrook added 15 points of his own, 12 of which came via the three-pointer.

For Corban, Jake Estep turned in his best individual performance of the season in the defeat, notching a season-high 19 points (6-of-9) and three boards to pace the Warrior offense. Of those, 17 came in the first half.

Joining him in double-figures were Mauricio Smith (13 points, four rebounds) and Elijah Welch (11 points, three assists).

At the glass, Isiah Quintero, Dominique Lawrence, and Beau Roggenbach each tallied six boards apiece, tying for the team lead in the category.

Corban (6-2) will return to the court tomorrow, taking on Montana Western at 3 p.m. in its final contest of the Domino's Classic.
