(RV) Warrior Men’s Basketball Comes Up Short in 72-70 Loss at Montana Western

CALDWELL, Idaho – The (RV) Corban University men's basketball team lost a competitive affair against Montana Western in its second game of the Domino's Classic, falling by a final score of 72-70 on Saturday.

"We fought until the very last second and just ran out of time against a very athletic Montana Western team this afternoon," said head coach Mitch Freeman. "We had a number of guys who stepped up in the absence of several key players."

Freeman went with an eight-man rotation in the matchup with the absences of Tyler Wadleigh, AJ Hodges, and Denis Kirichenko. He received strong production throughout his rotation in the matchup. Elijah Welch and Beau Roggenbach led the attack for the Navy and Gold.

Welch's 15 points would lead the team, and his three assists also tied for the team lead. He also added three boards to the team's total, with each player in the Corban rotation racking up at least one rebound.

Roggenbach's performance was of the all-around variety. Having put up 14 points and nine rebounds in the game, Roggenbach was a catalyst for the Warriors' success, on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.

Neither team shot poorly, but the Warriors struggled mildly from beyond the arc in the defeat. Corban was 5-of-21 on the afternoon from three-point land, equaling out to 23.8% as a team.

The Navy and Gold did enjoy a six-rebound advantage in the matchup over the Bulldogs. They out-rebounded them by a tally of 38-32, which would lead to 11 second-chance points.

Montana Western boasted James Jones' scoring ability in the bout, as he rained down shots at an 11-of-19 clip and scored a game-high 23 points. Jones was supported strongly by Brian Howell, who added on 12 points and seven rebounds to help the Bulldogs' cause.

Corban (6-3), which has stumbled in its last two games, will look to get back on track on November 26 against NCAA Division II opponent Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash.
