KIRKLAND, Wash. – The No. 14 Corban University women's basketball team struggled against Montana Tech in the squad's first matchup of the Northwest Classic. The Orediggers earned a 81-47 victory to deal the Warriors their first loss of the 2019-20 season.
"We didn't come out with the mindset we needed to for our first road game today," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "Luckily we get to be back on the court tomorrow and be ready to play."
Corban shot just 32.7% from the field in the game, and 27.8% from three-point land. This game marks the second matchup in a row that the Warriors have failed to reach the 50-point mark.
The Corban defense, which was coming off a strong defensive victory over Willamette, allowed 81 points to Montana Tech on 44.9% shooting and 56.3% from three-point range. In the previous game, the Navy and Gold allowed just 42 points to the crosstown rival Bearcats.
The Navy and Gold offense was once again spearheaded by the play of Jordan Woodvine, who led the squad with 17 points and picked up four rebounds and four assists as well. Shaelie Burgess also reached double-figures with 10 points in the defeat.
In a well-balanced attack, Montana Tech had five players in double-figures, with Dani Urick leading the charge. Urick scored 19 points, gathering four rebounds and two assists.
Corban (1-1) will face a quick turnaround, as it will look to right the ship against Salish Kootenai College tomorrow. The two squads will tip-off at 11 a.m. in the Warriors' final contest of the Northwest Classic.
