Warrior Women’s Hoops Pushes Win Streak to Four with 67-55 Triumph over Evergreen

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four games on Saturday evening, cruising past The Evergreen State College with a 67-55 victory. Abby Forsyth had a career night in the triumph, racking up 18 points.

"These two home conference games were big for us going into Christmas break," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "We came out with great energy on both nights and defended our home court."

As a squad, the Warriors shot nearly 50% from the floor, establishing a new benchmark for the 2019-20 conference season.

It's a new career-high in scoring for Forsyth, whose hot hand spearheaded Corban's offensive efforts.

"Abby was great on both ends of the floor!" said Pilgeram on his senior guard.

Her fellow guard Shawnie Spink also shined on Saturday, sinking four triples in a 12-point performance.

Forsyth and Spink's combined 30 points were crucial for the Navy and Gold, particularly in light of an uncharacteristically quiet night offensively from Jordan Woodvine, the Cascade Collegiate Conference's (CCC) leading scorer.

Under the rim, Shaelie Burgess notched a new season-high with 14 points, ending the night just three rebounds shy of a double-double.

Trinity Betoney was exceptional for the Geoducks in the defeat, turning in an impressive 33-point effort on 10-of-14 shooting. Betoney accounted for well over half of Evergreen's points, but her outstanding individual performance would be overshadowed by the Navy and Gold's stellar back court.

The Warriors (8-4, 4-1 CCC) will return to CCC action on January 3 and 4, when they travel east to take on College of Idaho and No. 18-ranked Eastern Oregon.

Prior to that, Corban will head down to Eugene to face NCAA Division I powerhouse University of Oregon—currently ranked third in the country in the Associated Press poll—in an exhibition next weekend (December 28), tackling NCAA Division III Linfield College a couple of days later (December 30).
