No. 23 Corban Women’s Basketball Tops Walla Walla, 61-55

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – The No. 23-ranked Corban University women's basketball team survived a late fourth-quarter run by Walla Walla University on Friday, holding on for a 61-55 victory over the hometown Wolves.

"I was very proud of our team and how they reacted and played through a lot of different types of adversity today," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "It was a physical, hard-fought game."

After a dominating performance in the first quarter (20-9), it appeared as if the Navy and Gold would cruise to a conference victory on Friday afternoon. The Wolves landed a hefty blow in response, however, outscoring the Warriors 21-13 in the second half to trim the deficit to three (33-30) at the midway point.

Walla Walla would make a run again in the fourth quarter—outscoring the Warriors 17-13—but it would prove to be too little, too late.

Miscues allowed the Wolves to remain within striking distance, as Corban gave the ball away 21 times in the victory, leading to 21 points for its opponent.

As Warrior fans have become accustomed to seeing, Jordan Woodvine led the charge offensively, turning in an effective and efficient performance in the triumph. The star senior went 6-of-11 from the floor en route to a game-high 17 points, while also collecting five rebounds.

Shawnie Spink (13 points, two assists) continues to impress as the captain of the Warrior offense, notching her third-straight double-digit scoring effort in her past four games.

Pilgeram and company saw invaluable efforts from the reserves, as Gracie McCoy came off the bench to deliver a perfect 3-for-3 performance (seven points) from the floor, and Rayna Pilgeram (seven points, seven boards) ended the afternoon as the squad's leading rebounder.

"Gracie with seven points and Rayna leading our team in rebounds were big lifts off the bench today!" added Pilgeram.

On the opposing side, Jaliyah Casem (16 points), Isabella Robles (13 points) and Jacqueline Saucedo (10 points) combined to account for 39 of Walla Walla's 55 points.

It's the first Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victory of the season for the Warriors (5-4, 1-1 CCC), who will look to sweep the weekend in another matchup with the Wolves tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.
