SALEM, Ore. – Getting quality minutes from everyone available on the roster, the No. 19-ranked Corban University women's basketball team clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament, downing the Walla Walla University Wolves in the final regular-season contest on Sunday, 67-58.
"The team came out with a good mindset and got the job done today in a hard turnaround from last night," said Corban head coach Bill Pilgeram. "Our focus now needs to turn to the conference tournament and playing the best basketball of the season when it counts!"
The No. 2-seeded Warriors will host No. 7-seeded Northwest University on Tuesday night in Salem in the CCC Tournament Quarterfinals, with the winner advancing to the tournament semifinals.
Everybody who played on Sunday for Corban scored at least two points, with big minutes given to everyone in a Warrior uniform. Corban built its lead during the first 20 minutes, and while Walla Walla actually outscored the Navy and Gold in the second half, Corban utilized its depth to secure the triumph.
Lindsay Asplund led the way with a career-best 21 points and seven boards, nailing a quartet of long-range efforts. Addie Flemmer also had a career-best effort, shooting 4-for-7 from the field with a trio of three-pointers and 11 points. In addition, Kendra Murphy scored 10 points in the triumph for the Warriors and was the only other Corban player in double-figures.
For the Wolves, Carolina Montes scored 15 points, while Britnee Guerrero notched 12. Additionally, Titi Graham recorded 11 points in the defeat for the Wolves.
"With us as short-handed as we are, having Addie Flemmer and Shelby Ferry come in and give us quality minutes this weekend was a big blessing for us!"
Corban (22-8, 16-4 CCC) and Northwest will face off on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. Live Stats/Live Video will be available HERE.
