SALEM, Ore. – The No. 19-ranked Corban University women's basketball team came up short on Saturday night, faltering offensively against Oregon Tech in a 49-39 defeat. For the Warriors, the loss snaps a six-game winning streak.
"The effort was there," said Corban head coach Bill Pilgeram, "but we just weren't able to put enough points on the board to get a win tonight. 21% shooting along with 18 turnovers was too much to try to overcome against a good team like Oregon Tech."
The win moves the Owls into second place in the CCC standings for now with the final week remaining. Both the Warriors and Owls (20-8, 14-4 CCC) have four losses in conference play, while the Warriors have three games in the final week and the Owls just two.
Corban played very well defensively, holding Oregon Tech to just 15 first-half points and a 30.5% shooting mark overall on the evening. Offensively, however, the Warriors could not find their rhythm, and it was the Owls that really locked down defensively, especially in the second half, holding Corban to just 14 points over the final 20 minutes. Overall, Corban shot just 10-of-47 from the field for 21.3%.
Oregon Tech forced the Warriors into 18 turnovers while only committing 10, and the Owls held the slight rebounding edge, 43-40.
Abby Kreiser tallied a team-leading 13 points in the triumph for Oregon Tech, while Nohea Waiwaiole recorded 10 points and was the only other Owl in double-figures.
Corban's Treasure Farmer was the only Corban player in double-figures with 13 points, while Jordan Woodvine tallied nine.
Corban (19-8, 13-4 CCC) returns to the court for its final three games of the CCC regular season, all which should prove crucial in the final CCC standings. Tipoff on Tuesday against Northwest Christian is slated for 7 p.m.
