KEIZER, Ore. – The Corban University baseball team saw two strong pitching performances in Saturday afternoon's doubleheader split with College of Idaho. Despite the Warriors claiming the opener by a 6-2 margin, a three-run seventh-inning rally helped the Yotes even the series via a 3-2 triumph in game two.

"Today was a tough day-one split," said head coach Derek Legg. "We've got to find a way to win a series tomorrow."
Game one featured a premier pitching matchup between two of the NAIA West's top arms, Corban's Jonathan Russomano and College of Idaho's Hunter Boyd. Russomano had the advantage between the aces, limiting the Yotes to just one unearned run in eight innings of work.
It was Daniel Freiburger who landed the first blow for the Warrior offense, blasting a two-out, two-RBI double off the left field fence to give Corban an early 2-0 lead in the first. The reigning All-NAIA West shortstop would prove to be a thorn in the side of Yote pitching throughout the contest, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, accounting for half of the Warriors' offensive output.
The senior shortstop's double-play partner, Maxwell Jeffrey, also had an impressive day at the plate, collecting three hits and scoring three times in the triumph. Junior backstop Nate Cantonwine rounded out Corban's multi-hit performers, going 2-for-4 out of the two spot.
The pitching led the way for both sides in game two, as Zachary Filos and College of Idaho's Richard Walker dueled back-and-forth in the low-scoring affair. Filos would hold the Yotes scoreless through the first six innings, while not surrendering a hit in the first five frames.
A wild pitch from Walker allowed the game's first run to cross the plate in the second, with Brendan Yawn doubling the Warrior advantage with a solo blast in the sixth.
Corban was unable to hold the lead, however, as College of Idaho strung together four hits to plate three unearned runs in a costly seventh inning. The tying and go-ahead runs came courtesy of a pair of timely singles from the squad's eight and nine hitters—Carter Vieira and Alec Hopkins.
The Warriors would put the tying run in scoring position in the final frame with only one out, but Yote reliever Nathan Pena was able to induce a strikeout and a groundout to convert the save.
Corban (8-14-1, 6-4 NAIA West) will face-off with the Yotes (10-18, 5-5 NAIA West) again tomorrow for the latter half of the conference double-header, with first pitch of game one slated for 11 a.m. at Volcanoes Stadium.
