LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) office announced on Monday that Corban men's track & field standout Michael Schmidt has been named the CCC Red Lion Field Athlete of the Week. It's his second time receiving the honor in 2019.
It's been quite the year for the multi-event star, who was awarded conference Men's Field Athlete of the Meet plaudits this past weekend for his stellar showing at the conference championships.
The honor was well-deserved, as Schmidt carried 10 points into the meet with his title in the decathlon (6763 points) from April's CCC Multi-Event Championships. Not done there, he then went on take fourth in the long jump (22' 1") and first in the 400-meter hurdles (54.73 seconds) at this weekend's events.
In case that wasn't enough, he capped off the meet with one of the gutsiest performances in Warrior track & field history, running a blazing 46.38-second anchor leg in a thrilling come-from-behind victory for the men's 4x400-meter relay team.
