No. 11 Warrior Volleyball Takes Down Northwest in Four Sets

KIRKLAND, Wash. – In the squad's first Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) road contest of the 2019 season, the No. 11-ranked Corban University volleyball team earned a four-set triumph over the Northwest University Eagles on Friday evening (25-19, 28-26, 20-25, 25-16).

"We played a very tough Northwest team tonight," said head coach Kim McLain. "Although we struggled with consistency, coming out with a win is huge. I am proud of how this team continues to work together when its back is against the wall."

Keeping with the early theme of the fall campaign, the Warriors once again showcased their offensive depth in the victory. It seems as if a new member of the team steps up each match, and this time it was Jacquelyn Clark, who registered a new career-high in kills with 15 (.423 attack percentage). The sophomore from Albany, Ore. was also in on six blocks, leading the team in the category.

Avari Ridgway tallied double-digit kills with 10 (.208 attack percentage) on the night, part of eight members of the Corban roster to register a putaway. Jadyn Mullen (20 assists) and Cierra Leopoldino (19 assists) provided their usual consistency for the offense, while each added five digs on the defensive end.

Kealani Ontai led the Navy and Gold with 19 digs, and Lauren Condon notched 12 of her own in the win.

As a team, the Warriors hit at a .224 clip across all four sets, though sets one (.074) and three (-.030) saw far-different results than the team's impressive second (.400) and fourth (.433) games.

For the Eagles (4-5, 2-1 CCC), only Tatiana Ensz (11 kills, .286 attack percentage) reached the double-digit kill plateau. The loss marks Northwest's first CCC defeat of the 2019 season.

In contrast, the Warriors (6-3, 3-0 CCC) have now enjoyed three-straight victories, and will look to continue their success against The Evergreen State College tomorrow night. The match—which serves as the back half of the Navy and Gold's brief two-game road stint—is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
