Knights End Corban Women’s Basketball’s CCC Win Streak

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team saw its seven-game Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) winning streak come to an end on Saturday evening, falling by an 86-67 tally to Warner Pacific University.

"Warner shot the ball very well and seemed to have an answer every time we made a run," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "Their zone was able to keep us out of sync offensively."

The Navy and Gold trailed at the half by an eight-point margin, 43-35. The Warriors made a run in the third quarter, cutting the deficit down to just three points. From that point on it was all in favor of the Knights, however, as Warner Pacific led by as many as 20 points in the fourth stanza.

For the Knights, it was Gabriella Bruno who led the charge with 20 points. Bruno was a lights-out 6-of-11 from the field, adding a trio of three-pointers to her stat line.

Darbi Pink and Courtney Jackson also contributed significantly, accounting for 19 points and 15 points, respectively.

Jordan Woodvine (24 points) and Kendra Murphy (13 points) were responsible for the bulk of the offensive work for the Warriors, combining for over half of the Navy and Gold's scoring.

Woodvine delivered a typically exceptional performance, boasting an 11-of-22 shooting line, while adding five boards and two assists.

Down low, Murphy posted another big game on the glass. In addition to her 4-of-11 performance from the floor, she compiled 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

Foul trouble hindered the Warriors greatly, as four out of Corban's starting five—Woodvine, Murphy, Shawnie Spink, and Shaelie Burgess—fouled out of Saturday's contest.

Corban (11-6, 7-2 CCC) will hit the road next weekend for a pair of crucial conference matchups in southern Oregon. The Navy and Gold will begin by facing the Raiders of Southern Oregon University on January 17, and will finish off the weekend at (RV) Oregon Tech on the following day.
