Murphy and Burgess Help (RV) Corban Women’s Basketball to 74-53 Win over SOU

ASHLAND, Ore. – For the second time in as many years, the (RV) Corban University women's basketball team defeated Southern Oregon University down in Ashland, leaping ahead of the Raiders in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings with a 74-53 triumph.

The Warrior frontcourt carried the load in the win, with Kendra Murphy (18 points, 12 rebounds) and Shaelie Burgess (18 points, 10 rebounds) both notching double-doubles.

"That was a big-time team effort to get that road win," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "We've had sickness, concussion, and injuries hit us this week, and the team really rose above all that!"

The two squads entered play tonight tied for second in the conference standings, setting up significant implications for Friday's battle at the Lithia Motors Pavilion.

Corban took a six-point advantage (33-27) into the locker room at halftime, but it was a dominating performance in the third stanza—during which the Warriors outscored their opponent 20-8—that helped the Navy and Gold pull away.

Southern Oregon scored 10 of the fourth quarter's first 13 points, but the resilient Warriors withstood the late push by closing the game on an 18-8 run.

Both Murphy and Burgess were as efficient as they were effective, as each ended the night shooting at a stellar 66.7% clip.

"Kendra and Shaelie dominated the paint at both ends!" added Pilgeram.

In total, four Warriors finished in double-figures. Jordan Woodvine—battling flu-like symptoms—notched 10 points and four assists, while Fallon Hanson (11 points) delivered a sparkling performance off the bench.

The unsung heroes of the night, Shawnie Spink (nine points, eight assists) and Rayna Pilgeram (eight points, six rebounds, three assists) each made their presence felt in multiple facets, stepping up in a big way for the short-handed Warriors.

The path won't get any easier for Corban (12-6, 8-2 CCC), which will now set its sights on (RV) Oregon Tech tomorrow evening. Tip-off with the Owls is slated for 5:30 p.m. down in Klamath Falls.
