KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Saturday evening's matchup between the (RV) Corban University women's basketball team and (RV) Oregon Tech was as good as advertised, with the intense battle coming down to the final moments on Danny Miles Court. In the end, Corban was unable to stick with the Hustlin' Owls in their breakout 25-point fourth quarter, losing by a final tally of 63-60.
"The team really played their hearts out and gave us a chance to win the game in the end," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "Great things will continue to happen if we keep playing like we did this weekend on a very tough road trip."
The two Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) powerhouses went back and forth throughout the duel, with Corban carrying a one-point advantage (31-30) into the locker room at halftime. The Warriors stretched that lead to seven heading into the final period, but the Lady Owls' offense ignited in the final stanza to erase the deficit.
With the game knotted up at 60 apiece with just seconds left, Oregon Tech's Amanda Constant fought through contact to sink a tough lay in, converting the and-one to put the Owls ahead (63-60) with two seconds to play.
Jordan Woodvine delivered a tremendous effort in the defeat, tallying 27 points on 9-of-18 from the floor, adding an 8-of-8 performance from the free-throw line. She added six boards on the evening.
The Navy and Gold ran a play for their star guard just prior to Constant's game-winner; but in the end, the ball didn't bounce the Warriors' way.
"We got a great shot for Jordan at the end that just didn't fall," said Pilgeram.
For Oregon Tech, it was Kristin Farrell who stole the show, as she was 6-of-12 from the field. Five of her six makes were from beyond the arc. She also drained 5-of-6 free-throws that she attempted, on the way to a career-high 22-point performance in front of the home supporters.
Abby Kreiser also made an impact for the Owls, stuffing the stat sheet for 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
Corban (12-7, 8-3 CCC) will look to build on its gritty performances over the past two nights, traveling north to Washington next weekend to face The Evergreen State College and Northwest University. The contests mark the beginning of the second half of conference play.
