PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University men's basketball team was absolutely on fire all night long, as evidenced by the final box score, where the Warriors blew the Knights out of the water in a majestic 112-75 walloping of Warner Pacific.
"Our guys played hard and played together for forty minutes," said head coach Mitch Freeman. "We shared the ball well and were able to find each other for shots in rhythm. Seeing shots go in the basket energized us on the defensive end of the floor as well. This was the type of performance we needed at this point of the season. We hope to catch some rhythm heading into tomorrow night's contest."
In a 57.5% display of shooting the orange, the Warriors (coincidentally) scored exactly 112 points against the Knights for the second time this season. The Navy and Gold have shot over 50% in just two conference games all season, both coming against WPU.
AJ Hodges played at an unreal level on Friday night, having gone a perfect 8-of-8 from beyond the arc and 9-of-11 in total on his way to a 26 point performance for the ages. Hodges also added four rebounds and four assists to add other dimensions to the team's success.
Another Warrior with a strong performance in the matchup was Beau Roggenbach, who went 8-of-11 from the field and added eight rebounds to lead the team in that department. His 18 points were good for the third-highest total from a Corban player on the evening.
Tyler Wadleigh turned in yet another gaudy performance, shooting 8-of-12, including 3-of-4 from long-range. His 19 points came in a variety of different ways, which helped the team run their offense off of his success.
In the season's prior meeting between these two squads, the Knights shot at a great 50% clip but were unable to stick with the Corban offensive threat. This time, however, there was no such threat from WPU. Shooting just 25-of-67 in this tilt, the Knights failed to reach 40% from the field.
Aaron Stuart had 14 points for the Warner Pacific squad and shot 4-of-6. Two of Stuart's four makes were threes, which, in addition to his 4-of-4 free throw performance added up to the team's highest scoring player on this night.
Corban (11-16, 5-12 CCC) will look to build off of the outstanding performance at Warner Pacific by playing the same way in Saturday night's game against Multnomah University.
