Team Effort Leads to 78-65 Victory at WPU for Corban Women’s Basketball

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team hit the road on Friday for a trip up interstate five to Warner Pacific University. The Warriors came into the matchup having dropped their previous meeting with the Knights in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center by a 19-point margin. The Navy and Gold made it known that they would not be denied on Friday night, as they trounced WPU by a final tally of 78-65.

"We had a great mindset from the start, along with really good energy," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "It was a gritty team win on the road, while playing through their runs and staying composed."

Corban stormed out to a commanding lead early on in the competition, scoring 28 first-quarter points in comparison to Warner's 11. The Warriors would not look back as they went on to take the win by a thirteen-point margin.

Having shot 42.1% from three-point land, the Navy and Gold benefitted from a strong shooting night from star forward Jordan Woodvine. Her 4-of-8 clip from downtown accounted for half of the team's made long-range shots. She finished with 28 points and was a stellar 10-of-16 total from the field.

In a career night, Shaelie Burgess was responsible for scoring 21 points (career high) and amassed 16 rebounds (career high). With career highs in both points and rebounds, Burgess was a highly efficient 7-of-12 from the floor.

Rayna Pilgeram had a game to remember, collecting a career high nine assists in the tilt. She also picked up 14 points on 3-of-5 shooting, and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Her two made three-pointers helped stretch out the defense, giving Burges and Woodvine easy access on the interior.

Darbi Pink was the go-to scorer for the Knights in this one, as she put up 18 points and shot a strong 50% (6-of-12) from the field.

Gabriella Bruno and Courtney Jackson each scored 15 points for WPU in addition to the strong performance from Pink. Each of the Knights' top three scorers was able to sink multiple three-point jumpers.

Corban (15-10, 11-6 CCC) will be looking to win back-to-back road affairs after dropping back-to-back home events the previous weekend to Oregon Tech and SOU. The Warriors will take on Multnomah University on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. in Portland.
