Warrior Women’s Hoops Falls to Multnomah 63-47 Sans Woodvine and Murphy

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team was without two key performers on Saturday night in Portland, as the Warriors took on the Lions of Multnomah University for the second time this season. Unfortunately for Corban, the loss of Jordan Woodvine and Kendra Murphy proved too much to overcome in the 63-47 defeat.

From the get-go the Warriors felt the lack of Woodvine and Murphy's presence, as they fell behind 20-7 after the first period of play. From then on, the Navy and Gold were unable to find their way back into the game despite a strong defensive fourth quarter in which they allowed just six points.

Neither team had great nights from the field, as the victorious Lions shot just 37.1% from the field. Luckily for them, nine of their 23 made field goals were of the three-point variety.

The Warriors shot an abysmal 28.8% and made just two out of their 23 attempts from long-distance (8.7%).

Shaelie Burgess was the bright spot for Corban, mustering 17 points in an expanded offensive role that saw her attempt 21 shots, a career high. She added a strong 13 rebound performance to lead the Navy and Gold in both scoring and rebounding.

Alaygza Portis was on fire from beyond the arc, draining six out of nine attempts from distance. She was accountable for 27 points and shot 8-of-16 for the Lions in an inspired display of offensive talent.

Multnomah was aided by strong effort from Erykah Campbell in the tilt, scoring 11 points and pulling in a game-high 15 boards.

After a 1-1 weekend, Corban (15-11, 11-7 CCC) hopes to finish off the season strong with back-to-back home bouts against Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho on February 21 and 22, respectively. The Warriors will be vying for higher seeding in the upcoming Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) tournament.
