SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women's basketball team faced the No. 25-ranked Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon University on Friday night, and much to the delight of the Warrior faithful, they dictated the way the game was played the entire evening. The Navy and Gold would roll on to a 67-56 triumph over the team currently at the top of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings.

"Every player did a great job of rising above in a short-handed situation," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "Our balance and our depth was a huge key tonight. Offensively, we distributed and got great shots. It was good to see us shoot with confidence."

The middle periods are where Corban made their living in this one. The Warriors outscored the Mounties 38-23 over the span of the second and third quarters of play.

Corban did a fantastic job of keeping the EOU shooters from getting easy looks in this game, as they shot just 27.7% from the field.

Meanwhile, Corban's 50% shooting clip was an impressive one, considering the level of competition that they faced in this CCC contest.

Shaelie Burgess had yet another standout game, scoring 17 points and pulling in 11 rebounds on top of her gaudy 7-of-14 scoring performance.

Rayna Pilgeram, Jordan Woodvine, and Shawnie Spink each tallied double-figure point totals for the Warriors. Pilgeram made her presence known as a long-range deadeye, shooting 3-of-3 from distance. Woodvine, in the game she returned from injury, scored 11 points and shot 5-of-10. While Spink was a hybrid who made two threes and two twos on her way to a strong showing.

Jane Nelson seemed to be the lone person that the team could trust to find a way to score for the Mounties. She scored 16 points, while none of her teammates were able to crack the double-digit mark.

The Warriors (16-11, 12-7 CCC) are standing strong as the fifth seed for the CCC Championships coming up, and will look to get on a roll as postseason creeps closer. Before the playoffs begin, though, the Navy and Gold still have their home tilt against College of Idaho on Saturday evening at 5:30 in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
