KEIZER, Ore. – The Corban University baseball team struggled to fire up their offense on Saturday at Volcanoes Stadium in their Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) matchups against the College of Idaho Yotes. The Navy and Gold rode strong pitching in each of the two games to a day-two split with C of I, winning the first game 4-3 in 12 innings and dropping the finale by a final tally of 3-1.

"I'm thankful for the good weather and the Warrior fans that came out to enjoy today's games," said head coach Derek Legg.
College of Idaho was first to strike in game one, but the run that came in to score was of the unearned variety on an error by second baseman Jared Berard. The Warriors would follow suit in the bottom half of the second inning with a run of their own on a Nate Cantonwine solo bomb over the right-field fence. The Warriors would then add a run to take the lead in the bottom of the third on a bases-loaded walk by Justin Tow.
In the sixth, the C of I offense grinded a run across the plate on what could have been an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play. The Warriors reliever Jacob Bowser induced a tailor-made double play ball that turned into a fielder's choice as the relay from second to first was low and unable to be picked cleanly out of the dirt.
The game would remain tied 2-2 until the top of the 12th inning when Ryan Nolan picked up an RBI single to give the Yotes the lead heading into Corban's last at-bats. The Warriors would not take the loss easily, as the Warriors used four singles and a walk-off walk from Jack Ossenkop to outlast the College of Idaho.
Hector Sepulveda threw five innings of one-hit baseball while allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out seven Yote hitters.
Jacob Bowser was responsible for seven innings of relief pitching in the game, as he allowed just the single run in the 12th inning and five hits total in his superb outing.
Jared Bowman picked up his first loss of the season for the Yotes, as he allowed the two runs in the bottom of the 12th frame.
Game two was another pitcher's duel, but this time the Warriors fell short on the offensive side of things. Up until the seventh inning, the Navy and Gold had only mustered two hits against starting pitcher Connor Root, who earned his second win of the season in the tilt. The Warriors would tack on four hits over the final three innings, but it was not enough to surmount the deficit.
Ben Dudley, who was playing first base in this one, drove in the game's first run with a dinger to left off of Corban starter Zach Filos in the second inning. The 1-0 lead would hold steady until the fifth inning when Jonah Hultberg ripped an RBI double into the left-center gap with runners at first and second base. Carter Vieira scored on the play, while Nolan moved to third base. In the following at-bat, Nolan scored on a wild pitch to conclude the scoring for the College of Idaho hitters.
Corban's lone run batted in came off the bat of Maxwell Jeffrey in the seventh inning on an RBI single to right field, scoring Dakota Fingar.
Zack Simon came in after Filos had pitched 5.1 innings to finish the game on the mound with 3.2 shutout frames. He allowed just two hits in his stead while sending four Yote hitters back from whence they came via the strikeout, unfortunately, for all the success that Simon enjoyed, the team was unable to feed off of his strong performance and dropped the game by a final of 3-1.
The Navy and Gold (6-13, 2-2 NAIA West) will be off next weekend, but return to Volcanoes Stadium the following weekend to host the University of British Columbia in a four game CCC set where the Warriors will be looking to improve upon their .500 conference record.
