SALEM, Ore. – Seeking a return to the NAIA National Tournament, the Corban University women's basketball team will add six newcomers to the fold for the 2020-21 campaign. Head coach Bill Pilgeram announced his recruiting class on Thursday afternoon.
"I'm very excited to welcome this group of newcomers to our program," said Pilgeram. "Each brings a unique skillset to our team and fills the needs from our departing players. Most importantly, they are great students who fit Corban's mission to make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ!"
Halle Wright – 6'0" – Guard – Cascade HS/Montana State Univ. – Aumsville, Ore.
A dynamic and special talent, Warrior fans are eager to see Wright's first year of competition on the court. The local product comes to Corban after a year at NCAA Division I Montana State University. Prior to that, she made a name for herself as one of Oregon's top athletes, collecting four First-Team All-League and four Player of the Year plaudits at Cascade High School. For her incredible high school career, she was named the Statesman Journal Athlete of the Year.
Wright is studying psychology during her time at Corban.
Kelsey Molan – 5'9" – Guard – Cascade HS – Salem, Ore.
Another product of Cascade High School, Molan joins her hometown Warriors after compiling a decorated high school résumé. A multi-sport athlete, Molan played both soccer and basketball during her prep career. She excelled on the court, receiving All-League honors on three occasions, and being named to the All-State team during her senior year.
Molan will aim to earn a degree in education from the university.
Holly Golenor – 6'0" – Forward – Cole Valley Christian HS/Walla Walla CC – Meridian, Idaho
Hailing from Meridian, Idaho, Golenor will look to make an immediate impact on the court for the Navy and Gold. The six-foot forward has already competed at the collegiate level—having played for Walla Walla Community College for the past two seasons—and adds another dangerous weapon to the Warrior squad. In high school, Golenor averaged a double-double, collecting First-Team All-Conference, Second-Team All-Conference, and Player of the Year accolades. She continued that success at Walla Walla, having earned an NWAC Player of the Week and First-Team All-Region award in her two-year stint there.
Golenor is studying elementary education at Corban.
Josslyn Ames – 5'7" – Guard – Silverton HS – Silverton, Ore.
Ames brings versatility and athleticism to the Navy and Gold roster, having excelled at nearby Silverton High School prior to her arrival on campus. Not only did she deliver on the court for the Foxes, but she also competed in the sports of cross country, soccer, track & field, and tennis. For Silverton's hoops team, she was twice named an All-Conference Honorable-Mention, while also leading her squad to a League Championship in 2020.
Ames will hone her studies in business leadership and management.
Gemma LaVergne – 5'11" – Guard – Emmett HS – Emmett, Idaho
A multi-sport standout, LaVergne hails from Emmett, Idaho. While playing for Emmett High School, she was an All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2019, while also being named a First-Team All-Conference honoree and statewide All-Star in 2020. LaVergne ended her career at Emmett as the school's three-point record holder, and her athleticism helps solidify the Navy and Gold's deep and talented backcourt. She will also lend her talents to the Warriors' women's track & field team.
LaVergne plans to major in kinesiology while attending the university.
Shielteal Watah – 5'8" – Guard – Klamath Union HS – Klamath Falls, Ore.
Another young and dynamic guard, Watah hails from Klamath Falls, Ore., and touts an impressive pedigree from her time at Klamath Union High School. A decorated member of the school's basketball, volleyball, and track & field teams, Watah averaged a double-double (21.8 PPG, 10.6 RPG) on the court in high school. Watah was a three-time All-Conference award-winner, while also collecting Second-Team All-Tournament accolades at the Oregon State Championships. She currently holds the Klamath Union school record for points in a game (44).
Watah intends to garner a degree in kinesiology during her time at Corban.
The newcomers will mix in with Corban's already-talented group of returners—which is headlined by the reigning Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Co-Defender of the Year, Shaelie Burgess, as well as keystone pieces such as Shawnie Spink and Kendra Murphy.
