No. 6 Corban’s Win Streak Shattered by Bushnell in Straight Sets

EUGENE, Ore. – No. 6 ranked Corban University volleyball fell Tuesday night to I-5 rival Bushnell University. With the loss, Corban's historic streak of 19-consecutive wins (program record) came to an end. Midweek play - after a tough weekend - did not slow down either team, as the lead was tugged back and forth throughout the intense matchup.

The Warriors stormed out of the gates in set one, but the ever-resilient Beacons stayed tough and took back the lead for the remainder of the set. The Beacons attacked at a .407 clip, propelling them to a set one victory, 25-23.

Set two was a brutal back and forth contest that contained a remarkable eleven ties and five lead changes. Corban's Ally Tow was injured in the set, but prior was making a strong contribution for the Warrior offense with four kills in seven attempts. She passed the baton to freshman, Ainslie Ridgway. Meanwhile, the Beacons utilized every opportunity to build momentum and took set two, 26-24.

Set three's melody was all too familiar for the Warriors, as the Beacons echoed the chorus they'd been instrumenting all game as they took set three, 27-25. There were fourteen ties in the third set, making a grand total of 30 times that the intense match was all tied up.

Offensively, Rylee Troutman led the Warriors with 15 kills. Avari Ridgway (9) was not far behind, and Allyson Reid (5) contributed at the net for the Navy and Gold.

Troutman spearheaded the valiant defensive effort for the Warriors as well, notching 11 digs. She was followed by Ridgway (10) and Kealani Ontai (8).

For the Beacons, Shay Coons and Makenna Northern shouldered the load. Coons attacked at a remarkable .342 clip and tallied 15 kills. Northern tallied an impressive 40 assists in the victory.

Corban (19-1, 13-1 CCC) will look to bounce back as they return home to Salem this weekend. The Warriors will battle the Lions of Multnomah on Friday (October 15) and the Warner Pacific Knights on Saturday (October 16). Both games will take place in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center at 7 p.m.
