SALEM, Ore. – It didn't take long for the No. 5-ranked Corban University volleyball team to return to its winning ways after dropping its first match of the week on Tuesday, as the Navy and Gold cruised to a straight-set triumph (25-11, 25-11, 25-12) over visiting Multnomah University inside of the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center on Friday night.
Discounting last season—which was limited to just 19 matches due to COVID—the Warriors have now reached the 20-win plateau in each of the past five seasons.
"It was great to get back on the court tonight," said head coach Kim McLain. "I was proud of how the team came our playing focused and intentional; it was truly a team effort!"
Corban was off and running from the first serve, claiming seven of the match's first eight points. That would help the hometown team cruise to a 25-11 victory in game one, setting the tone for the remainder of the match.
That was the same score for the second stanza, where Corban led wire-to-wire in another impressive offensive display. The Lions took the first two points of the third game, but Corban responded with five straight to jump back in front, and the Warriors never looked back from there en route to a 25-12 game-three victory.
Avari Ridgway and Rylee Troutman turned in otherworldly performances in the win, with Ridgway leading all performers with 12 kills on a .450 attack percentage and Troutman adding 10 putaways on an impressive .556 clip.
Rookie Jadah Schmidtke contributed the best performance yet of her young career, registering seven kills on a stellar .600 hitting percentage.
Three setters saw significant time on the floor in Friday's rout, with Jadyn Mullen leading the charge with 15 assists, and Courtney Garwood (12 assists) and Ciarra Judson (10 assists) sharing in the setting duties.
In addition to leading all players with 12 kills, Ridgway also was the only athlete on either side to reach double digits in digs, ending the night with 11.
Corban held Multnomah to a -.103 hitting percentage as a team, the lowest of any opponent so far this season.
Danae Stokes was Multnomah's top performer in the defeat, finishing with a team-high six kills on an .095 hitting percentage.
The Warriors (20-1, 14-1 CCC) will be back at home tomorrow night, hosting Warner Pacific University at 7 p.m. on Tim Hills Court.
