Corban Women’s Soccer Caps Off Unbeaten Homestand with 3-0 Win over RMC

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women's soccer team closed its six-game homestand with an exclamation mark on Saturday evening, defeating Rocky Mountain College by a 3-0 final score to seal an unbeaten three weeks of home contests. Klarissa Barajas' brace headlined the squad's offensive efforts.

"We didn't start off the way we should have, but we had a strong second half," said director of soccer Tim Kagey. "Being at home was great, but now we need to be ready to get back on the road for our next two matches."

The Warriors struggled to find a rhythm offensively in the first half, looking disjointed at times in their attacking third. Corban finally broke through in the 41st minute, however, when Jamine Biava beat her defender to the endline and crossed in a ball that found Maria Serrant's feet. Serrant flicked it in for her 12th goal of the season, giving Corban a 1-0 lead right before the half.

After the squad convened at the midway point, a renewed energy could be felt on the Warriors' side in the second half.

Barajas doubled the Warriors' margin in the 61st minute, as Corban took advantage of some sloppy play in the back from the visitors. Juliana Pires stole it away from a lackadaisical Bear back line and picked out Barajas in the middle of the field, who curled one just inside the left post.

Just five minutes later (66'), Barajas capped off her brace, making it a three-goal Warrior lead with her second goal of the day. Rocky Mountain goalkeeper Atlanta Kisbaugh and Barajas both sped towards a loose ball, with Kisbaugh making a risky move to come off her line. Fortunately for the Navy and Gold, Barajas won the one-on-one battle, putting the game out of reach with her fifth goal of the season.

The defense carried the hometown team, as the Corban back line—consisting of Cammie Wolter, Biava, Emilly Olvera, and Moe Sato—was exceptional, holding the Bears to just four shots on the day, and only one in the second half.

In goal, Makida Herbert earned her sixth shutout of the season, pulling down a pair of saves in the clean sheet.

Corban (11-2, 7-2 CCC) will now hit the road for its first away contests since September 25, traveling to the southern part of Oregon for a crucial road series against Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon.

The Owls currently sit in first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) standings, and the Raiders are right on the heels of the Warriors in the standings, meaning next weekend's games will have significant postseason implications.

While the Warriors and Owls are tied in points (21) so far, Oregon Tech has one less loss in CCC competition (7-1 CCC), while Corban and College of Idaho are currently tied for second place with a 7-2 conference record.

Kick-off for Friday's matchup between Corban and OIT will be at 2:30 p.m., while the Warriors and Raiders will square off on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
