KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Two goals in the final 10 minutes lifted the No. 23-ranked Oregon Tech Owls to a 2-0 victory over the Corban University women's soccer team on Friday afternoon. It was a tightly-contested battle from wire-to-wire, as both teams—which entered today's match tied in points in the conference standings—vied for a pivotal win in the push for the 2021 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Regular-Season Championship.
"It was a tough result today," said director of soccer Tim Kagey.
With the win, the first-place Owls gain some valuable breathing room in the CCC standings heading into the final few matches of the season, controlling their own destiny in their title pursuit as the regular season winds down.
The defenses were the story throughout the majority of Friday's contest, as neither team found the back of the net in the game's first 80 minutes. Souring the defeat even further, Corban out-shot the Owls 7-2 in the first half, and 11-5 for the match.
Two of those Oregon Tech shots found the back of the net in the game's final moments, however, as the hometown team struck twice in the span of just over two minutes.
Kiah Wetzell scored in the 83rd minute to give the Owls the lead, and Sylvia Sloss doubled the advantage in 85th.
Corban (11-3, 7-3 CCC) will look to regroup and bounce back on Sunday, enjoying a day off before returning to action in another important CCC battle against Southern Oregon University. Game time between the Warriors and Raiders is currently scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Ashland, Ore.
