ASHLAND, Ore. – Goals were hard to come by for the Corban University women's soccer team in a 2-0 defeat on the road against Southern Oregon University on Sunday afternoon.
Adding to the frustration of the defeat, the Navy and Gold out-shot the hometown team 17-4 in the battle, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on frame.
Baylee Touey finished a long assist from Malaika Quigley to give the Raiders an early advantage, making it a 1-0 SOU lead in the 14th minute.
That is where the score would remain for the next 60 minutes of play, with Corban creating a number of exciting opportunities along the way without finding an equalizer.
Natalie Paul provided the insurance for the Raiders in the 73rd minute, with Gabbie Johnson serving in the cross and earning an assist on the goal. Win the win, SOU has now won seven of its last eight.
Corban (11-4, 7-4 CCC) will return home to the comforts of the CFC Soccer Complex next weekend, hosting its final regular-season game of the fall against Bushnell University. The start time is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the Navy and Gold's seniors set to be recognized prior to the contest.
