SALEM, Ore. – The No. 7-ranked Corban University volleyball team continues to make history on the court this season, setting a new program record with its 18th Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victory this season courtesy of a straight-set win over Northwest University on Saturday evening (25-21, 25-23, 25-15). Prior to the match, three seniors—Ciarra Judson, Sarena Bartley, and Makenna Campbell—were honored for playing in their final regular-season home matches with the program.
"We came out tonight refocused, playing much better defense both at the net and in the back court," said head coach Kim McLain. "I was proud of how the team played with tenacity and grit tonight!"
Northwest came out of the gates strong, at one point claiming a five-point lead (15-10) in set one. Corban responded with an 8-2 run, however, vaulting back in front and eventually claiming a 25-21 victory in the first game. The Warriors had to scratch and claw for the triumph in the second stanza, as well, as the Navy and Gold edged the visitors in a back-and-forth affair to take a two-sets-to-none advantage.
The third game was much more comfortable for the hometown team, which claimed the set's first five points and never looked back. The 10-point triumph in set three sealed the historic victory, with Corban reaching the 18-win mark in conference play for the first time in program history.
Corban's two-headed attacking tandem of Rylee Troutman (13 kills, .310 attack percentage) and Avari Ridgway (11 kills, .364 attack percentage, 10 digs) was once again phenomenal in the victory, while Bartley celebrated her Senior Night with an exceptional display (eight kills, .533 attack percentage, four block assists) of her own.
Fellow senior Campbell led all performers with a trio of service aces, while Judson tallied 18 assists to lead the team, combining with Jadyn Mullen (15 assists) for 33 assists between the two setters.
No player had more digs than Kealani Ontai, who registered 18 in the win.
With the triumph, Corban (24-2, 18-2 CCC) concludes its regular-season home slate, finishing out the regular season next weekend on the road against Walla Walla University (November 5) and Lewis-Clark State College (November 6).
With one more victory, the Navy and Gold would match the CCC record for conference wins in a season.
