No. 7 Corban Volleyball Clinches Share of CCC Title with Sweep of Wolves

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – History continues to be made by the No. 7-ranked Corban University volleyball team, which captured at least a share of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Regular-Season title on Friday with a straight-set victory over Walla Walla University (25-9, 25-15, 25-12). It is just the second CCC Regular-Season Championship in program history.

With the victory, Corban matches the conference record for CCC wins in a single season, and guarantees at least a tie with second-place Eastern Oregon University for the conference's top spot at the conclusion of the 2021 regular season tomorrow. With the Warriors winning each of their two matchups against the Mountaineers this fall, Corban has also clinched the No. 1 seed and the role of tournament host for the CCC Championships next weekend.

"I was proud of the team, playing as a unit, staying focused, and playing with an intention," said head coach Kim McLain. "Tonight was truly a team effort!"

Corban dominated from start to finish, hitting at a .319 clip as a squad and holding the Wolves to an even zero team attacking percentage. Walla Walla held a lead for two points in the third set, but that was the only time Corban had to play from behind in the entire match.

Avari Ridgway (17 kills, .667 attack percentage) and Rylee Troutman (14 kills, .345 attack percentage) accounted for 31 of Corban's 45 kills, while Jadyn Mullen (20 assists) dished out nearly half of the squad's 41 assists.

Defensively, 11 different Warriors registered at least one dig, with Kealani Ontai and Marissa Uehara tying for the team lead with eight apiece. Ridgway continued her strong defensive campaign with seven, and Troutman and Makenna Campbell each ended the afternoon with six.

Corban (25-2, 19-2 CCC) will have a chance to win the CCC Regular-Season Championship outright tomorrow, traveling to Lewiston, Idaho to play Lewis-Clark State College at 5 p.m. With a victory, the Warriors would set a new conference record for CCC wins in a single season.
