SEATTLE, Wash. – The Corban University women's basketball team dropped their first exhibition of the weekend on Friday against Seattle Pacific University by a final score of 63-38. After playing a close first quarter, the Warrior offense stalled scoring just 24 points in the final three quarters of the game.
"This was a good test, and we went toe to toe with Seattle Pacific for much of the game." said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "We have had some early injuries which is giving a lot of people opportunities to get valuable experience."
The Warriors hung around early, trailing but just one at the end of the first quarter. However, a 10-0 run for SPU to start the second quarter set the Navy and Gold back and they just could not climb out of the early hole. Corban shot 28.8% from the field in the contest, while also struggling from three-point range, hitting just 1-of-10 3PT attempts (10%). Meanwhile, the Falcons shot 40.3% overall and knocked down eight threes. Bench points were also a key facet to the SPU victory, as their garnered a whopping 34 points from their bench, while the Navy and Gold did not have a bench point in the contest.
Halle Wright earned her first double-double of the campaign for the Corban, scoring a game high 22 points and corralling 10 boards. Holly Golenor (12 PTS, 6-of-11) was the only other Warrior with more than four points on the day.
For Seattle Pacific, Anna Eddy (12 PTS, 5-of-7 FG) and Beth Pettingill (12 PTS, 5-of-8 FG) tied for the team lead in scoring. The Falcons had ten different members of their roster register a point in the game.
Corban (1-3) will take the floor again tomorrow afternoon in another exhibition contest against Western Washington University, with tip slated for 1 p.m.
