Corban Women’s Lacrosse Earns First-Ever Win in 14-12 Triumph Over Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – There was no shortage of excitement in Wednesday evening's matchup between the Corban University women's lacrosse team and NCAA Division III Pacific University.

Under the lights in Forest Grove, Ore., the two teams fought tooth and nail in a back-and-forth thriller. In the end, the Warriors grabbed a pair of late goals to seal a 14-12 victory, the first in program history.

"I'm so proud of the way we played tonight," said head coach Kylie McMinn, who also claimed her first career triumph at the helm of the Navy and Gold. "We improved on what we needed to improve on from our last game, and we continued to play extremely well together. We give all glory to God, as this is His program."

Sydney Davis turned in an otherworldly performance in the win, scoring nine of Corban's 14 goals. In addition, Sarah Whitbey earned a hat trick in the triumph and Geneen Impreso notched a brace.

The duel was close from beginning to end, with the Warriors carrying a slim 10-9 advantage into halftime. After a relatively high-scoring first half, the defenses took center stage in the final 30 minutes.

Captaining the efforts, Payton Nuse was exceptional in goal for the Navy and Gold, tallying eight saves overall and limiting the Boxer offense to just three second-half goals.

A number of those denials came when the two squads were tied at 12 apiece with just 10 minutes left in the competition. With fatigue beginning to become a factor on both sides, both teams looked to snatch a victory on a late score. The Warriors were able to do exactly that, pulling away with a pair of goals in the final minutes.

Unsurprisingly, it was Davis who provided the game-winner, with Impreso adding some valuable insurance just a couple minutes later.

"Tonight's game reflected the potential that our team has to rise quickly," added McMinn. "It also showcased the skill and chemistry of our athletes. The future looks bright for us!"

Corban (1-2) will enjoy a well-earned rest this weekend before returning to action on March 20-21, traveling to La Grande, Ore. for back-to-back matchups against Northwest Nazarene University (March 20) and Eastern Oregon University (March 21).
