SALEM, Ore. – After missing the first season of competition in program history due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Corban University beach volleyball team will finally make its long-awaited premiere on Thursday. Head coach Diana Villalpando brought in 14 talented newcomers to the roster in 2021, with a brief look at the accomplishments of each listed below.
Autumn Daggett – 5'6" – Union HS – Cove, Ore.
Daggett arrives at Corban after spending her high school years at Union High School in Cove, Ore. During her prep years, she was involved in three different sports. She played volleyball (four years), basketball (four years), and softball (three years) at Union. She earned several individual accolades in her time on the volleyball court, accruing First-Team All-League and Second-Team All-State honors in 2019.
Daggett is majoring in elementary education during her time at Corban.
Marlee Jasso – 5'5" – Simi Valley HS – Simi Valley, Calif.
A two-year volleyball participant during her years at Simi Valley High School, Jasso enters the fold at Corban with aspirations of making a quick impact. She competed with Hermosa Beach Volleyball Club, which has helped prepare her for the collegiate beach game.
Jasso will be studying forensic psychology during her time with the Warriors.
Tessa McFetridge – 5'8" – Vale HS – Treasure Valley CC – Vale, Ore.
A three-sport athlete at Vale High School, McFetridge brings an athletic presence to the 2021 squad. The volleyball, basketball, and tennis player earned numerous accolades on the volleyball court in her career. She was named First-Team All-League in 2016, and was the Conference Player of the Year in 2017 alongside Second-Team All-State plaudits. After her high school career, she headed to Treasure Valley Community College, where she played indoor for two seasons.
McFetridge will work toward earning a bachelor's degree in counseling psychology during her time with the Navy and Gold.
Sydney Sanford – 5'10" – Eastlake HS – Sammamish, Wash.
The Washington state native, Sanford comes to the Warriors after a successful four-year playing career at Eastlake High School in Sammamish, Wash. The incoming Warrior also competed for well-known clubs, such as DaKine Volleyball Club and Moxie Volleyball Club. She adds further depth and talent to the Warrior squad.
Sanford will be a business major at Corban, hoping to eventually work in human relations.
Briana Ayala – 5'3" – North Salinas HS – Cabrillo College – Salinas, Calif.
A native of Salinas, Calif., Ayala adds experience to the Navy and Gold roster, and possesses the type of talent that could make her an impact player at the onset. In the spring of 2019, Ayala and her partner qualified for the CCCAA State Tournament, making the duo one of the top-32 pairs in the Golden State. She grew up competing for the West Coast Volleyball Academy, and has experience on some of the biggest stages of competition both on the sand and indoors. Exceptional in the classroom, as well, Ayala left Cabrillo College as a member of the school's Dean's List.
Ayala will study business administration while attending Corban.
Kiley O'Rourke – 5'9" – Clovis West HS – Fresno, Calif.
A first-year collegiate player who played both volleyball and basketball in high school, O'Rourke brings another dynamic talent to the second-ever Warrior beach volleyball roster. She brings a wealth of experience on the sand, as she spent three years playing club beach volleyball prior to her arrival in Salem. Having experienced team success on the indoor stage, O'Rourke hopes to bring a winning mentality to the Navy and Gold in 2021.
Hoping to work as a marketing manager, O'Rourke will study marketing at Corban.
Michelle Rosas – 5'9''– Los Altos HS – Rio Hondo College – Whittier, Calif.
Rosas brings a seasoned presence to the Warriors, having played both indoor and beach volleyball at Rio Hondo College. The 2015 graduate of Los Altos High School was a First-Team All-League honoree during her prep years, before finding a home at Rio Hondo, where she spent one year on the court and on the sand. Rosas joins the Navy and Gold as a sophomore athletically.
Rosas intends to study forensic psychology, with hopes of becoming a detective.
Jolinn Daviscourt – 5'6" – Cascade HS – Stayton, Ore.
Daviscourt arrives at Corban after playing her high school volleyball at Cascade High School just down the road in Stayton, Ore. The incoming freshman maintains a strong defensive background, as she looks to provide value to her pair through her instincts and defensive excellence.
Harmony Hunter – 5'3" – Liberty HS – Seattle, Wash.
A freshman from up north, Hunter hails from the Emerald City, where she played her high school volleyball for the previous four years. She was a varsity captain during her time at Liberty High School, and also competed for the Puget Sound Volleyball Academy. She brings nine years of volleyball experience to the Warrior beach ranks.
Hunter will major in criminal justice, as she hopes to become a lawyer down the road.
Nicole Bantilan – 5'5" – Mead HS – Spokane, Wash.
A four-year high school indoor volleyball player, Bantilan comes to the Navy and Gold as a freshman ready to contribute. The Warriors will look to her to bring a strong defensive presence to her pairing.
Bantilan will be a biology major at Corban, striving to become a botanist.
Amiyah Egdamin – 5'1" – Hanalani Schools – Leeward CC – Kapolei, Hawaii
Hailing from Kapolei, Hawaii, Edgamin arrives on the mainland after four years of both indoor and beach volleyball at Hanalani Schools, and a single season at Leeward Community College in Pearl City, Hawaii. She also played club volleyball for the Kroc Center Hawaii Volleyball Club.
Edgamin will study convergent media at Corban, hoping to enter the field of social media marketing.
Haley Paul – 5'6" – Ridgefield HS – Lower Columbia College – Ridgefield, Wash.
After spending the previous two years of her collegiate career at Lower Columbia College as an indoor volleyball player, Paul will come to Corban, where she intends to make an impact on the squad in her first year on campus. She spent her high school years at Ridgefield High School, where she earned First-Team All-League and Second-Team All-State plaudits during her senior season on the court.
Paul comes to Corban to study both kinesiology and business.
Kalisi Latu – 5'5" – Kamehameha Kapalama – Western Oregon Univ. – Oahu, Hawaii
After spending a single year at Western Oregon University in nearby Monmouth, Ore., Latu has left the indoor court behind and headed to the sand at Corban. An impressive athlete, Latu was a field star in high school, where she went to the state meet for shotput in 2019. After redshirting at WOU, Latu will enter the Navy and Gold ranks with freshman athletic eligibility.
Latu will be a psychology major at Corban, while she hopes to find a career in occupational therapy.
Simona Lucchina – 5'10" – Westlake HS – Thousand Oaks, Calif.
A 2020 graduate from Westlake High School in northern California, Lucchina brings athleticism and power to the young Corban group. Over the course of her first campaign, she hopes to show what she can bring to the squad in the program's first year of competition.
After being unable to make its program debut in 2020 due to COVID-19, the Warriors are eager to open up the season this week against a pair of NCAA Division I adversaries. Corban will compete in its first ever competition on Thursday, hosting University of Oregon at 2 p.m. in the inaugural dual at the Corban Beach Volleyball Courts.
