Corban Baseball Falls Twice to No. 24 Lewis-Clark State on Day One

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Corban University baseball team was in a prime position to take Saturday afternoon's series opener against No. 24-ranked Lewis-Clark State College, carrying a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. A two-out, three-run bomb from Dillon Plew propelled LCSC to the 4-2 victory in the contest, however, with the hometown squad continuing that momentum in an 11-1 (seven innings) blowout in game two.

Both starters were exceptional in the first duel of the day, as Corban's Mason Shaw and LCSC's Tallon Thomason each breezed through the first four innings unscathed.

Justin Tow got the Warriors started with an RBI single in the top of the fifth, helping Corban strike first. Lewis-Clark State got that run right back in the bottom half of the stanza, however, courtesy of an RBI two-bagger from Riley Way.

Corban took the lead in the sixth on a run-scoring double from Reese Fawley (2-4, RBI), with Shaw leaving the game in line for the victory after tossing six innings of one-run ball (4 H, 3 K).

Unfortunately, the lead wouldn't last, with Plew's blast turning the tide of the game.

The Warriors got off to a strong start in the second game of the day, as Maxwell Jeffrey—who had led off the inning with a gritty at-bat, eventually resulting in a single—came around to score on a defensive miscue from LCSC.

Unable to secure a shutdown inning, Corban surrendered a four-spot in the bottom half of the stanza, as LC State jumped out quickly against Nate Martin. Dalton Harum had the biggest hit of the rally, capping off the frame with a two-run homer to left center.

Martin would settle in from there, cruising through the next three innings, but the Navy and Gold offense was unable to chip away at the deficit against LCSC righty Trent Sellers (W, 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 6 K).

Another Lewis-Clark State long ball, this time a three-run shot courtesy of Jack Johnson, put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth. The squad from Lewiston would tack on three more in the following frame and one in the seventh to invoke the 10-run rule.

Corban (4-14, 3-3 CCC) will look to bounce back and earn its first road win of the season tomorrow, concluding its series with Lewis-Clark State in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
