SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Corban University women's soccer team made a strong first impression in its Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) opener against Bushnell University on Sunday afternoon, riding a trio of second-half goals to a resounding 3-0 triumph.

"Today was a great start to conference," said interim head coach Tim Kagey. "I felt as if we really started to find our rhythm in the second half. We are looking forward to tomorrow."

Despite a scoreless first half, it was clear that the Navy and Gold was in control from the onset. The Warriors fired off 11 shots to Bushnell's four in the first 45 minutes, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.

All four of the Beacons' first-half shots were on frame, but Warrior keeper Devan Archer was up for the task on each occasion, compiling four saves in total in the first clean sheet of her collegiate career. Corban's defense suffocated Bushnell in the latter 45 minutes, holding the squad's I-5 rival shotless in the second half.

The persistent Warrior attack finally paid off in the 52^nd minute, when dynamic newcomer Mei Suetsugu found the back of the net for the first time this season, finishing off a pass from Chanel Garcia to give Corban the lead.

Jamine Biava then doubled the lead with a goal in the 71^st minute, also opening her account as a member of the Navy and Gold.

Adding cushion with less than two minutes to play, Klarissa Barajas—who was tied for the team lead in goals in 2019 with six—padded the Warrior lead with an insurance goal, which was assisted by Hailey Hickman.

In total, Corban outshot its adversary by a hefty 21-4 margin, nine of which were on frame.

It's an impressive launch into the conference portion of the squad's 2021 spring campaign, and now Corban will have an opportunity on Monday to walk away from its weekend series with Bushnell with a pair of victories.

Corban (1-1, 1-0 CCC) will go for the series sweep tomorrow, once again facing the Beacons at the Les Schwab Sports Park, with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
