No. 13 Corban Volleyball Sweeps College of Idaho in First of Two Weekend Matches

CALDWELL, Idaho – On Friday evening in the Gem State, the No. 13-ranked Corban University volleyball team burst out of the gates against the home Coyotes of the College of Idaho. The Warriors hit their way to a 3-0 victory over the 'Yotes, as the Navy and Gold earned their tenth win of the campaign. The triumph marked the first time since 1998 that Corban has swept College of Idaho in Caldwell.

"I was proud of how the team played together as a unit tonight," said head coach Kim McLain. "We served tough and passed well. Our defense was relentless and would not give up."

Corban began the match with a 6-1 run, as they quickly stormed ahead of College of Idaho from the get-go. The deficit remained around five until the Warriors went on a spurt where they finished the set 25-15, after having led 14-9.

Set two was more of a stalemate, as it remained tied at 10 through 20 points played. With a narrow 23-21 lead, Corban grabbed a point on an Ally Tow kill, then experienced good fortune on an attacking error by the Coyotes. The Navy and Gold snagged a 25-21 set triumph.

The Warriors never trailed in set three, as they controlled the flow from the start, taking the win by a 25-17 margin.

On the offensive side for Corban, Rylee Troutman collected a team-leading 11 kills (.222 attack percentage), Avari Ridgway nabbed 10 kills (.125 percentage) and Ally Tow had eight putaways (.333 percentage). Sarena Bartley also racked up five kills in the triumph in just eight attempts (.375 percentage).

Austyn Mauzy and Jade Warren were the leaders for the Yotes in the match, as they each tallied six kills to pace the squad. Chloe Knudson's 17 digs were the most of any Coyote in the battle.

Kealani Ontai registered a match-high 24 digs on the defensive end for the Navy and Gold. The Warriors' primary setters were Jadyn Mullen (21 assists) and Ciarra Judson (17 assists) on the evening.

The Warriors (10-3, 10-3 CCC) will return to the floor in Caldwell tomorrow, hoping to duplicate the effort that they put forth on Friday evening. The first serve of the match on Saturday night is slated for 5 p.m. MST.
