Regular Season Finale Ends in Defeat for No. 13 Corban Volleyball

CALDWELL, Idaho – In the season's final game, the Corban University volleyball team was unable to eke out a victory over the College of Idaho on Saturday evening in Caldwell, Idaho. After holding a 2-1 lead in the fourth set, the Coyotes battled back to take the final two sets of the bout, giving them a 3-2 victory over the Navy and Gold.

"College of Idaho came out to play tonight and put us on our heels," said head coach Kim McLain. "Our passing consistency broke down, along with our defense at the net."

The match began with a set win for the homestanding Coyotes, who led by as many as 10 points, in a 25-21 triumph.

The Warriors came to life in the second set, beating the Yotes by the same score that they fell by in the opening set. The 25-21 victory for Corban would put them back on track.

Set number three was a product of momentum, as the Warriors finished off the stanza on a 10-4 run to finish off the College of Idaho 25-18.

The momentum would swing in the other direction in set four, as C of I trailed Corban by a score of 24-21, but were able to fight back from behind to rattle off five straight points. The late run gave the Yotes a 26-24 win of the set.

The tide of the match had changed in set four, and there was no stopping the train that was the College of Idaho in the fifth set, as they finished the battle on a 8-1 run after the Navy and Gold had been up 8-7 in the stanza.

Corban was led in the kills department by Avari Ridgway's 15 (.160 attack percentage), and received solid contributions from Cora Furman (9 kills, .643 percentage) and Rylee Troutman (9 kills, .118 percentage).

The Yotes had three players with double-digit kill marks on Saturday, making up for registering none in Friday's match. Danielle Neuman (21 kills, .500 percentage), Austyn Mauzy (11 kills, .226 percentage), and Cameron Wallace (10 kills, .174 percentage).

Kealani Ontai matched her dig total from Friday, as she notched 24 digs in the stat sheet. Ciarra Judson (30 assists) and Jadyn Mullen (20 assists) headed up the distribution duties once again for the Navy and Gold.

College of Idaho was paced by a 30-dig performance from Chloe Knudson, as they also received 38 assists from Abigail Guinn, and 24 assists by Margie Beeler.

The Warriors (10-4, 10-4 CCC) will be the No. 2 seed in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament, which will be held April 9 and 10. The Warriors are hoping for a chance to battle the regular season champion Eastern Oregon in the finals, and earn an outright bid to the NAIA Opening Round.
