SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University beach volleyball team hosted its second Pairs Tournament of the 2021 campaign on Friday and Saturday, welcoming University of Oregon, Boise State University, and University of Washington on the Corban Beach Volleyball Courts.
"We grew a lot individually and as a team between the last tournament and this one," said head coach Diana Villalpando. "We got a few significant wins this weekend, which is a great sign of progress."
Boise State's Erin Martin/Evi Wilson won the gold bracket on Saturday, coming away with the event's top honor.
After pool play on Friday, Melanie Miller and Lauren Condon served as the lone Warrior tandem to reach the silver bracket in Saturday's portion of the event. In bracket play, Miller/Condon fell to Oregon's Batia Rothstein/Abby Plevin in three sets (16-21, 21-17, 18-16), before stumbling against Boise State's Yasmin Tan/Maya Watkins in consolation play.
The remainder of the Navy and Gold's representatives competed in the bronze grouping, with Natalia Olabarrieta and Haley Paul compiling a trio of wins en route to the bracket championship.
The Warriors continue to learn and grow against some of the best, stretching themselves in competition versus top programs in the Pacific Northwest.
Corban will have one last event before the AVCA Small-College National Championships on April 16-18, hosting Portland on April 13 in the final dual of the regular season.
Speaking on the road ahead, Villalpando added: "We still have a lot more work to do in the next couple of weeks leading up to the AVCA National Championships, but I am confident that the girls are going to take what they learned this weekend and continue to apply it to grow their game."
