KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – In a preview of a matchup that will take place again in the first game of the upcoming Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championships, the Corban University baseball team claimed two road wins over Oregon Tech on Saturday. Fueled by a pair of homers from Reese Fawley, the Warriors held on to a 7-6 victory in game one; in the second half of the twin bill, the Navy and Gold bats slugged the squad to a 14-7 triumph.
"It was good to see the boys compete the way they did today," said head coach Derek Legg. "Looking forward to seeing them come out again tomorrow in the last day before the conference tournament."
Fawley got the scoring started with a solo bomb in the second inning of game one. Three batters later, Morgan Hostetler added another run with an RBI single, giving Corban an early 2-0 lead.
The Warriors tripled that advantage with four more in the next stanza, and a Fawley long ball was once again at the center of the action. After Justin Tow brought in a run with an opposite-field double, Fawley launched a three-run blast to stretch the lead to six.
With the two homers—which both came with two strikes in the count—Fawley takes sole possession of the team lead in long balls with seven. When factoring in his RBI in game two, his team-best RBI tally now sits at 35.

The Owls chipped away at the lead with a pair of runs against Warrior starter Mason Shaw in the bottom of the third, making it a 6-2 ballgame, and that is where the score would remain until the seventh.
A defensive miscue from OIT second baseman Micah Jio helped the Warriors plate their seventh run of the contest in the seventh, but a Kaleb Keelean solo shot in the bottom half of the frame returned the deficit to four. That would be the final run allowed by Shaw, who turned in a strong performance (7 IP, 3 R, 4 K) on the hill to earn his second win of the season.
Things got interesting in the bottom of the ninth, when Oregon Tech plated three to make it a one-run contest. The tying run was just 90 feet away with two outs, but Braedyn Chong was able to induce a game-ending groundout from Dalton Daily to preserve the win and earn his third save of the campaign.
Similarly to game one, Corban hopped out in front in the second inning of game two, this time courtesy of an RBI double from Estenio Sede. Dakota Fingar, Chris Grayson, and Morgan Hostetler all drove in runs in a five-run third, which gave the squad breathing room against the persistent Owl offense.
The hometown team halved the deficit in the bottom half of the third, knocking Nate Martin out of the ballgame. But veteran reliever Jacob Bowser was able to strand a pair of Owls in scoring position with less than two outs, averting further damage and shifting the momentum back in Corban's favor.
Bowser would end up tossing four solid innings of relief, earning the victory on the mound.
In contrast to game one, the Navy and Gold left no room for the Owls to mount a comeback in the latter half of Saturday's twin bill.
The Warriors hung up two-spots in both the fifth and sixth innings, as Hostetler scored two in the fifth with a single, and an RBI single from Fawley and run-scoring double from Estenio Sede led to two more in the sixth.
Oregon Tech scored in each of the final three frames, but a grand slam off the bat of Nate Cantonwine in the ninth provided the final blow in the game-two rout.
Corban's 18 hits in the triumph match the squad's most in a single game since February 11, 2018 against Simpson.
In addition, with the squad's three homers today, the 2021 Warrior baseball team has set a new school record for home runs in a single season with 36 and counting.
Klamath Falls has historically proven to be a difficult place for the Warriors to play, as the Corban has not won a series there since Corban achieved university status in 2010. The Warriors will have an opportunity to do just that tomorrow, however, as they take on the Owls in the final two games of the 2021 regular season.
As of now, each team possesses a 16-14 record in CCC play, and tomorrow's outcomes will have an impact on seeding heading into next weekend's postseason tournament. Regardless, the two teams will face off in the first game of the conference tournament, as No. 5-ranked Lewis-Clark State College has already clinched the top seed of the three-team tournament.
Corban (20-25, 16-14 CCC) is playing some of its best baseball of the season, extending its win streak to 10 games with today's triumphs. That mark is one away from matching the longest winning streak in the program's history, and the Warriors will look to close the regular season on a high note tomorrow in another doubleheader against the Owls, starting at 11 a.m.
