SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University men's basketball team took the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) by storm last spring, finishing on top of the CCC spring-season standings after going 15-3 (10-2 CCC) overall.
Only one of the team's starters from the 2020-21 season has moved on; and now, second-year head coach Taylor Kelly has brought in four dynamic recruits for the upcoming season. Three of those newcomers have already experienced success on the collegiate level—including two transfers from the NCAA Division I ranks—while the squad's lone freshman addition (Darvelle Wyatt) possesses the type of skillset that could potentially make an impact for the squad in his rookie season.
"This year's recruiting class is one that I'm extremely excited about," said Kelly. "We were able to increase our length, athleticism, and competitive spirit with the young men we were able to sign. They will represent the Warrior family with toughness and character. We are thankful they chose to be Warriors!"
Talin Lewis – 6'4" – Guard – Oaks Christian HS/University of Southern California – Westlake Village, Calif.
Transferring to Corban from Pac-12 powerhouse University of Southern California, Lewis brings elite athleticism to the Navy and Gold's back court. Lewis was apart of the USC team that reached the Elite 8 in the 2020-21, while also competing for three years in track & field for the Trojans. Before that, Lewis was a star at Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, Calif. His lengthy high school résumé includes First-Team All-League accolades in 2018, three track & field team and individual League Championships, two CIF individual championships in track & field, 2018 Oaks Christian Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year honors, and 2018 Oaks Christian Male Track Athlete of the Year accolades. For his exceptional efforts both on and off the court, he was the high school's Triple Crown award-winner for outstanding athletics, academics, and character.
During his time at Corban, Lewis intends to pursue a master's degree in kinesiology.
Darius Henderson – 6'9" – Forward – La Salle HS/UMASS Lowell/University of Montana – Pasadena, Calif.
Another transfer from the NCAA Division I level, Henderson previously competed at University of Montana and UMASS Lowell prior to joining the Warrior roster. Prior to his time playing for the River Hawks and the Grizzlies, Henderson was a standout at La Salle High School, where the Pasadena, Calif. native earned All-League accolades on three separate occasions, while also being named MVP two times. A physical presence, Henderson adds valuable size to Corban's front court ensemble.
Henderson intends to study criminal justice while attending Corban.
Psalm Maduakor – 6'4" – Guard – Narbonne HS/Citrus College/MSU Billings/Chadron State College – Carson, Calif.
Originally from Carson, Calif., Makuador has already experienced success on the NCAA Division II stage, and will look to make an immediate impact in the Warrior rotation. Most recently, while competing at NCAA Division II Chadron State College, Maduakor averaged over 25 minutes (starting in 11 of the team's 13 games) in 2020-21, averaging 5.9 PPG and 4.9 RPG. Prior to that, the shutdown defender was an integral contributor at NCAA Division II Montana State Billings, as well as an All-Conference Honorable Mention at Citrus College. During his high school career, Maduakor excelled at Narbonne High School, where he was named the MVP of the Marine League and a First-Team All-CIF City Section honoree, while also making two All-Star Game appearances.
Maduakor will be completing his master's degree in business administration.
Darvelle Wyatt – 6'5" – Forward – Etiwanda HS – Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
The lone incoming freshman from this year's recruiting class, Wyatt comes to Salem from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., where he dominated on the court for Etiwanda High School. No stranger to big games and big stages, Wyatt helped lead his team to three League Championships and a State Championship. Individually, he racked up All-League honors, All-Region plaudits, and All-State recognition during his exceptional high school career. The 6'5" forward will look to make an impact in his first season as a member of the Navy and Gold.
Wyatt plans to hone his studies in communications while at Corban.
